Experience Overview

One week in Morocco, done right - the three landscapes that make the country. Most first-timers spend a week on either the desert or the cities; this private loop gets you all three Moroccos in seven days without rushing any of them: the golden dunes of Erg Chebbi, the Berber villages of the High Atlas, and the Atlantic ramparts of Essaouira.

Quick answer: the route at a glance

  • Day 1: Marrakech orientation - medina, Jemaa el-Fnaa
  • Day 6: Essaouira - blue port, ramparts, ocean
  • Day 7: Free morning - departure

Why this route wins for one week

The honest trade-off in a 7-day Morocco itinerary is the north: you cannot do Fes and Chefchaouen AND the desert AND the coast in a week without losing a day to pure driving. This tour picks the best three landscapes instead - and if you do have the extra two days, the 9-day grand tour adds the whole north.

Practical notes

  • Pace: one long drive day (Day 4); everything else is relaxed.
  • Desert camp: private en-suite tents at Erg Chebbi.
  • Imlil: the walk is easy - mules available for kids.

Detailed Itinerary

Step-by-step timeline of your private journey.

Day 1

Marrakech, the gateway day

Morning: Depending on arrival time, a guided orientation walk through the medina and Jemaa el-Fnaa - the square where our Marrakech city tour spends a full day. Afternoon: Souk time with your driver - brass, carpets, spices - and an early night before the desert leg.

Day 2

Atlas crossing: Ait Ben Haddou to the Dades

Morning: Tizi n'Tichka pass, then the Ounila detour to Ksar Ait Ben Haddou. Afternoon: Ouarzazate and the Valley of Roses to the Dades gorges' switchbacks. Overnight in the Dades.

Day 3

Todra Gorge & the dunes of Merzouga

Morning: The canyon walk at Todra - 300 m walls on both sides. Afternoon: Erfoud's fossil workshops, then the camel trek into Erg Chebbi for sunset. Dinner, drumming and the night sky at camp.

Day 4

Desert sunrise, then the road back west

Dawn: Sunrise on the dunes; optional 4x4 or camel back out. Day: Rissani's souk, Alnif's fossil road and the Draa Valley via Agdz toward Ouarzazate. Overnight in a riad near Ouarzazate.

Day 5

High Atlas return & the Imlil Valley

Morning: Recross the High Atlas and head south of Marrakech into the Imlil Valley at 1,740 m - per our Imlil day-trip guide. Afternoon: A gentle walk between the walnut groves to Armed village, mint tea on a Berber terrace facing Toubkal. Overnight in a guesthouse in the valley or back in Marrakech - your call at booking.

Day 6

Essaouira - the Atlantic day

Day: West to the coast for the Essaouira day: the fishing port's blue boats, the skala ramparts, grilled sardines for lunch and the windy beach. Overnight in Essaouira's medina or back in Marrakech.

Day 7

Free morning & departure

Morning: Last wander in the medina - Majorelle Garden or a final souk run. Transfer to RAK airport or your riad; tell us your departure time and we shape the last day around it.

Important Information & What to Bring

  • This is the classic one-week-in-Morocco loop - if you only have 7 days, this is the route that loses the least.
  • The Imlil walk is easy and family-friendly (mules available for kids).
  • Desert camp: private tents with real beds.
  • Essaouira is windy by nature - bring a light jacket even in summer.

Tour FAQs

Is one week enough for Morocco?

For the classic loop, yes - seven days is the minimum to do desert + Atlas + coast properly. You will not see everything (Fes and Chefchaouen are the trade-off), but what you do see, you see well. For everything, see the 9- or 11-day tours.

Should I pick the 7-day or the 9-day grand tour?

If you can add two days, take the 9-day - it adds Casablanca, Rabat, Chefchaouen and Fes. If 7 days is the hard limit, this is the best one-week Morocco itinerary.

Is the Imlil walk hard?

No - it is a gentle 1-2 hour walk between walnut groves to a Berber village, with mules available. Families do it easily.
