The Honest First Thing: One Week Means Choosing
A week in Morocco is the minimum for the classic loop — and the classic loop means giving up the north.
Every itinerary that tries to squeeze Fes and Chefchaouen AND the Sahara AND Marrakech AND the coast into seven days ends up as a week of driving with short stops. The honest math: you cannot do all four landscapes well in a week. So a good 7-day Morocco itinerary picks three and does them properly.
The three-Moroccos version (our recommendation)
- The desert — Merzouga's Erg Chebbi dunes, 2 days out of the week
- The Atlas — the High Atlas Berber villages, Imlil and the Toubkal foothills
- The coast — Essaouira's blue-boat port and Atlantic ramparts
That combination — desert + mountains + ocean — is the three Morocco you can't replicate elsewhere, and it skips the north, which needs the extra two days of the 9-day grand tour to do properly.
The Route: Day by Day
The loop starts and ends in Marrakech — the only airport that makes this itinerary work without backtracking.
- Day 1 — Marrakech. Arrival + a guided orientation of the medina and Jemaa el-Fnaa. Our city-tour itinerary covers the full day if you land early.
- Day 2 — The Atlas crossing. Tizi n'Tichka pass, Ksar Aït Ben Haddou, Ouarzazate, the Valley of Roses to the Dades gorges. This is the kasbah route — the scenery IS the day.
- Day 3 — Todra Gorge & the dunes. Walk the 300 m Todra canyon, then the camel trek into Erg Chebbi for sunset and a night under canvas.
- Day 4 — Sunrise & the long return. Sunrise on the dunes, then the southern loop home via the Draa Valley and Ouarzazate.
- Day 5 — The High Atlas. South of Marrakech into the Imlil Valley — a gentle walk between Berber villages to a tea terrace facing Toubkal.
- Day 6 — The Atlantic. West to Essaouira: the fishing port's blue boats, the skala ramparts, grilled sardines, the windy beach.
- Day 7 — Marrakech, the slow morning. Majorelle Garden or a final souk run, then departure.
What You Give Up in a Week (Be Honest With Yourself)
The one-week loop is excellent — but it's the desert-Atlas-coast loop, not all of Morocco.
What this itinerary skips
- Fes — the oldest medina in the Arab world, deserves a full day alone
- Chefchaouen — the blue city is 500 km north; it doesn't fit a Marrakech-based week
- Casablanca & Rabat — worth stops, but they belong to the northern line
- The northern coast — Tangier, Tetouan
None of that fits a week without turning the trip into a highway marathon. If you can stretch to 9 days, the grand tour adds the whole northern line; the 11-day version adds Chefchaouen properly plus the coast. If the week is the hard limit, the desert-Atlas-coast loop is the best possible use of it.
Who This 7-Day Itinerary Is For
Perfect for
- First-timers with exactly one week — it covers the three iconic Morocco landscapes
- Desert-focused travelers who want Atlas villages and ocean too
- Anyone flying in and out of Marrakech — the loop never backtracks
- People who want a private pace, not a tour-bus schedule
Maybe not if you are
- North-focused — if Fes/Chefchaouen are the priority, do a north-only week instead
- On 4–5 days — do the 3-day Merzouga desert + one excursion instead
- Expecting imperial cities — that's the grand-tour route, not this one
Practical Notes for a One-Week Trip
Driving
Day 4 is the only long one (~7-8 hrs with stops via the Draa). Everything else is 3–5 hours of scenic driving — the landscapes are the point, not the transit.
Booking
A 7-day private tour is quote-on-request: party size, dates and camp tier set the rate. Send dates + headcount via WhatsApp (+212 661 666 324) for a fixed all-inclusive quote.
Season
October–April is the desert's sweet spot; the Atlas is cool year-round and Essaouira is fine any season (windy in summer). June–August is doable but hot in the desert — start days earlier.

Is 7 days enough for Morocco?
Yes for the classic desert-Atlas-coast loop. Seven days is the minimum to do Merzouga, the High Atlas villages and Essaouira properly; Fes and Chefchaouen need the extra days of a 9- or 11-day grand tour.
What's the best 7-day Morocco itinerary?
Marrakech → Aït Ben Haddou → Dades → Merzouga dunes → Imlil Valley → Essaouira → Marrakech. It covers the three iconic landscapes without backtracking.
Can you see Fes and Chefchaouen in a week?
Not alongside the desert and coast — that needs 9+ days. A one-week Morocco itinerary that tries to include the north turns into a driving marathon.
Do you start a 7-day Morocco tour in Marrakech or Casablanca?
Marrakech for the desert-Atlas-coast loop (no backtracking). Casablanca only if the itinerary goes north first — that's the grand-tour route.
